40% to 50% drop in campus hiring in B-Schools

If you are planning to get admission in any of the B-School for the upcoming session, think again before taking your final call. A recent study published by Assocham says campus hiring in B-Schools except the leading IIMs and other top notch B-Schools of the country. There’s a similar drop in the number of fresh admissions.

The Assocham recently released papers, which showed the impact of economic slowdown on campus hiring, “B-schools are facing the consequences of economic slowdown.” The offers students are receiving are being curtailed by 35 to 40% compared to last year.

Assocham secretary general DS Rawat said, “Recruitments at campuses have gone down drastically. As a result, a large number of B-schools and engineering colleges are not able to attract students.”

Last year, more than 190 B-School shut down in 2012 in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Dehradun. Besides, over 165 are facing issues for survival. Around 300 to 500 institutions have become defunct because they did not get enough students to be viable, reveals the Assocham report.

The report says, “The situation in engineering colleges is worse ..., with many of them lacking adequate infrastructure and quality faculty. Now only the best will survive.” This year, students are receiving lesser offers from financial and telecom sectors, which are almost 35% less compared to last year.

There has been a decline in the number of 15,000 to 18,000 in total registration this year, the less number of students will appear in MAT exam conducted annually, which noticed a decline of 35%.

The number of management seats in the country’s B-School has increased almost four-folds. The MBA capacity was built based on a projection of a 9-10% economic growth. Assocham has suggested B-Schools to improve things such as infrastructure, experience faculty, work on industry linkages, spend money on research and knowledge creating, and pay their faculty well in order to attract good teacher- and wait for better issues.
